Moving forward, looking ahead

(Isn't she cute? This is Spunky, our new kitten. Since we're getting a new home Angel figured we needed a new playmate for our other cat Spiffy. It's not easy getting some sleep when you get attacked by this little ball of energy in the middle of the night...)

Well it's been a week since we signed the papers for our new home; it took a few days for the initial excitement and surrrealism to fade as everything slowly sunk in. So many people are happy for us; thanks again to everyone for your love, support and prayers. For me the focus this week has been getting on with stuff that had been put on hold. I find I have only so much emotional energy to do stuff, and with the search for a home behind us I've been doing some catch-up.

This week I finished off 2 lessons in my course, did some head hunting for volunteers for this weekend's Calvary Sunday School picnic , coordinated meals for a lady in our church who came out of the hospital and helped with organizing a preaching workshop at Calvary next weekend. And I won't even mention the extra hours I put in at work... In spite of the busy week Angel & I did spent some time together; we browsed Ikea for furnature on Sunday and went for lunch on Wednesday after visiting the bank to sign the morgage papers.

In addition to the move this summer, I'm working on finishing off my current course from Prairie (after which I'll take a breather), planning a Calvary men's retreat in Jasper next month and putting some material together for a fall workshop at Calvary on soul care & prayer ministry. Phew! It's a lot of stuff on my plate, but I love the sense of acomplishment. I guess I'm a forward looking person - I like to see what's ahead of me and plan out stuff. There's so much to look forward to just for this summer: our planned vacation in Waterton, my eldest niece's wedding, family from Denmark coming to Canada, moving and renovating - all of it gives me a sense of momentum, that life is moving forward.

Then there's next year, when Angel & I plan to go to Europe to see Colin & Galya in England and my relatives in Norway & Denmark. As well I plan to be enrolled as a full time student at Prairie in January; I want to get on with finishing my Associate of Arts in General Studies and then re-evaluate where to go next. It's a lot of stuff on my agenda to be sure, but I'm tired of thinking and living small. I want to live out my dreams, and I guess I felt like I was held back (or I held myself back) for too long. To quote a line from John Eldredge's book Wild At Heart, "Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do it, because what the world needs is people who have come alive."

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get on with my morning. I'm going out for lunch today with some guys from the church to celebrate the completion of a Bible study we've been doing. Unless some disapointed Oilers fans went nuts last night after loosing to the Ducks we'll be enjoying our "Blackaby" burger at Marco's on Wyte Avenue...
