Thanks for your comment Alex. But I need to point out that you yourself also say you know something, and that is you don't know. You are certain about your uncertainty, so you must be honest about that.

Also, claiming to have proof is not intellectually dishonest if we can say we don't have a "fool-proof" argument. When people want proof of God/no god they want something iron-clad; a solid bridge to take us over the muddy waters of doubt.

But there is no bridge; instead we are left with stepping stones that require leaps of faith, which we all do - the theist, atheist and the agnostic.

One more thought; you've fallen into the fallacy that Christianity is about life after death, but God offers us life *before* death. You are totally right when you say that the here & now matters; it's just that for the Christian the here & now is not all there is in life.

You're limiting yourself to two choices when there's (at least) one more:
'...or we can never know one way or the other and should suspend judgement until we can know.'

This is the intellectually honest answer to the question.
Claiming to have proof there is a god is just as intellectually dishonest as claiming to have proof there isn't a god. In my experience both are typically a waste of time. Believing that human well-being is the most important thing in our lives is the honest answer, with proof readily available. In my opinion, the god / no god debate is just a distraction from what really matters in this life.
